Sgt. Jason Posel’s first dog. After retirement from police work in 2007, he enjoyed hanging out on the couch, causing mischief by getting into the fridge, and chasing around the cats and other dogs at home. Shadow passed away at age 11 in ____.

Niko

Birthday: December 28, 2005
Breed: Male Belgian Malinois
Duty: Patrol & Narcotics Canine
Service: 2006-2013
Handler: Sgt. Jason Posel

Niko was selected by Sgt. Posel to replace K-9 Shadow after his retirement. Niko was trained by Posel from the time he was 12 weeks old. Niko was a Belgian Malinois and was the first of that breed to join the K9 unit. Posel’s work with Niko as a puppy helped inspire the current puppy cadet program. Niko passed away suddenly at his home when he was 8 years old.
